The Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri: women building better communities.
Kathleen Johansen serves as the Transfer Education Chair. She planned a special Christmas social for Transfers into JLKCMO, and the party was such a huge hit she was inspired to write a very special tribute! She planned an evening of fun and socializing, but it also re-energized and connected members. Everyone had so much fun that they have planned a spring social as well! Pull up a cozy chair, and listen to Kathleen’s tale.
‘Twas the night of the Junior League party …
‘Twas the night of the Junior League party, and I’m giddy with glee,
The hor d’oeuvres smell yummy, and the cocktails flow free;
My holiday tree was perfectly placed with great care,
In hopes that the Transfers soon would be there;
They started to arrive, looking dashing in their threads,
While visions of merriment danced in their heads;
In true Junior League fashion, we began with an ice breaker,
After mingling for an hour, we became a craft maker;
Nestled on a table, lay tiny sweaters galore,
Mini bows, pom-poms, and bedazzled décor;
I cried, “We’re making Christmas sweater ornaments,”
They giggled with excitement over trimming the garments;
Then what to my wondering eyes did appear,
Ten deliciously-tacky sweaters, I erupted with cheer!
More rapid than eagles they brought forth their crafts,
Each one flashy and gaudy and we started to laugh;
Now glitter! Now ribbons! Now snowflakes, I see!
On bling, bling! On pretty bows! Uhh… googly eyes, can it be?
And then, in a twinkling, the night rapidly turned animated;
Time for Holiday Pictionary, oh the topics we illustrated!
In a wink of an eye, the party was done,
Time flies by when you’re having fun;
At the end of the evening, new friendships were created,
Plans are now underway for a spring social, we’re elated!
Then I quickly exclaimed as the Transfers told me good night—
“Happy Holidays to all, may your New Year be bright!”
