Our League at Work Tours: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Nelson tourThe New Members have had opportunities to participate in many different Our League at Work Tours this year. We featured the first one in November – a closer look at the legacy of Reach Out and Read. Stephanie Davis, New Member Education Chief of Staff, sent me information about two more Our League at Work Tours, and I’m excited to share it with you. You can see Sustainer Laura Crowe, pictured above, providing information to the New Members. Laura was my mentor during my first Active Year as part of Leadership Institute. I always appreciate her insight on Junior League as well as the Nelson-Atkins. Here’s more of what Stephanie had to say about the experience:

“We were lucky enough to have two tours hosted by The Nelson this year. New Members had the chance to hear from both the volunteer coordinator at The Nelson and some of our Sustainer docents! The League has an incredibly rich history with the Nelson, starting with helping to found the docent program (the first of its kind and the model for museums throughout the world). Being able to showcase the League’s involvement with a partner that is a cornerstone of our city was an amazing experience. After learning about the history of the League and how they can get more involved with volunteering, the women were treated to a docent lead tour of the galleries! It was a great experience for our New Members and Sustainers, and we hope to continue this tradition for future New Member classes!”
