Name That Penguin!

I’ve been thinking a lot about the “Name the Penguin” contest announced a few weeks ago. In honor of the Junior League’s million-dollar gift to the Penguin Plaza, we have the honor of naming one of the new King Penguins. League members can submit their ideas online here to name the new female penguin through September 10. I cannot wait for the General Membership Meeting later this month to hear the finalists and vote for the best name. If I were to place a bet, I have three ideas that I think might make an appearance on the final list. (Okay, these were also my submissions!)penguin

  • Parsley. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Junior League’s most popular cookbook and fundraiser, Beyond Parsley. I have a copy that is stained and well loved, and I think it would make a fabulous tribute name for a penguin.
  • Follie. Perfectly Kansas City, this name pays tribute to the Follies. As the original fundraiser for the League, this cute name helps to remember the League’s continued legacy in KC.
  • Marty: I heart the Mart. It’s no secret that Holiday Mart makes so much of our awesome partnerships with Kansas City community organizations possible year after year. Marty would allow us to celebrate Holiday MART and all the good that it makes happen. And don’t forget the shopping. It can’t be beat.

Junior League Members – be sure to submit your ideas TODAY! The contest ends on Wednesday!
