If you are feeling anxious, there are relaxation techniques, or mindfulness, to help you.

Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present in the moment. To be free from distraction or judgment. To be aware of your thoughts and feelings without getting caught up in them.

How players use mindfulness

Footballers have used mindfulness to refocus themselves when things have not gone to plan. It helps them to focus in a match and not be distracted by the crowd, and to cope with the pressure.

How often do you see a player about to take a penalty take some deep breaths? It can be as simple as doing that.

This NHS video offers simple tips for mindful breathing.

The Headspace app is offering everyone access to some meditations: 1) Relieving stress; 2) Walking at home; and 3) Panicking. To access these free meditations and for more information on Headspace, visit: headspace.com/covid-19.

If you find these useful then you may like to download the Headspace app, available with a free trial.
